The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) is an occupational licensure compact which allows professionals to practice in multiple states without having to obtain additional state licenses. The compact addresses increased demand to provide/receive audiology and speech-language pathology services and authorizes in-person and telepractice across state lines.
States participating in the compact communicate and exchange information, including verification of licensure and disciplinary sanctions; however, compact states retain the ability to regulate practice in their state.
Before the compact can issue privileges to practice, an ASLP-IC Commission will be created to serve as the compact’s governing body. The commission, responsible for ASLP-IC oversight, will create required rules and bylaws, with implementation expected in 2022.
Take action by contacting your state legislators and asking them to support the ASLP-IC in your state.
ASHA plays a lead role in advocacy and outreach for the ASLP-IC in states across the country. With the largest number of affiliates in each profession, we can ensure that all professionals will benefit. ASHA sends letters to states, voicing support for legislation introduced.
