Salary Supplement for Educational Audiologists and School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists

ASHA supports state and local initiatives that provide a salary supplement, stipend, bonus, or other type of salary upgrade to recruit, support, and retain educational audiologists and school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs). We believe states and local districts should recognize those who hold and maintain ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) as a basis for providing salary supplements for school-based members.

Impact on Audiologists and SLPs

Some examples of salary supplements include:

  • Stipend or reimbursement for maintaining an advanced credential (ASHA's CCC)
  • Additional pay for increased work due to Medicaid billing/paperwork requirements
  • Financial support to attend relevant professional development
  • Stipend to mentor early career SLPs or clinical fellows
  • Multilingual services

  • March 2, 2023: ASHA submits support letter to Oklahoma for HB 1037 [PDF] salary supplement, which makes school-based audiologists and SLPs who are ASHA certified for annual bonuses in the amount of $5,000.
