New and Revised Speech-Language Pathology ICD-10-CM Codes for 2018

The following new and revised ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification) codes are effective October 1, 2017. ICD-10-CM codes are updated annually.

New ICD-10-CM Codes

F50.82 Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder

ASHA Note: SLPs currently assign R63.3 (feeding difficulties; picky eater) to describe patients with restrictive food intake when dysphagia codes (R13.1-) are not appropriate. ASHA's Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology includes "Atypical eating (e.g., food selectivity/refusal, physiologic response)." Whether SLPs alone can use F50.82 may depend on payer requirements and/or state regulations. Check with your payer(s) and/or state licensing board directly.

Revised ICD-10-CM Codes

No change     R63.3 Feeding difficulties
No change                Feeding problem (elderly) (infant) NOS
Add                           Picky eater

ASHA Note: This revision does not change the intent of the code, but adds new language to include descriptive information or examples related to disorders captured under this code.

Deleted ICD-10-CM Codes

No codes related to speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing disorders have been deleted for 2018.
