Listening Session on Racism Experienced by Students, CFs, and Junior Faculty in CSD
July 14, 2020, 7:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
As we determine the most effective ways to identify and address racial discrimination within our discipline, we have to fully comprehend the extent of its impact. A first step is to hear directly from those who’ve experienced it. ASHA, in partnership with the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH), the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD), and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (National NSSLHA), and ASHA’s Academic Affairs Board, Council for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Council for Clinical Certification (CFCC), Multicultural Issues Board, and the Coordinating Committees of Special Interest Groups 10 (Issues is Higher Education), 11(Administration and Supervision), and 14 (Cultural and Linguistic Diversity), will conduct a listening session on July 14, 7:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m. The intent of the session is to allow individuals responsible for systemic change to hear first-hand accounts of the magnitude and intensity of racism on our students, CFs, and young faculty members who are African American and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and how they are experiencing professional preparation and entry into our professions.
