Reinstatement of the CCC-SLP, the process of applying to reinstate ASHA certification, may be available to eligible individuals whose ASHA certification is one of the following:
- Expired: Individuals with this status have lost the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) due to nonpayment of annual certification fees and/or noncompliance with certification maintenance requirements.
- Resigned or Retired: Individuals with either status have voluntarily given up the CCC.
- Revoked or Withheld: Individuals with either status hae been found in violation of the ASHA Code of Ethics and have received a sanction or revocation or withholding of the CCC from the ASHA Board of Ethics (BOE) for unethical conduct. Individuals who want to reinstate ASHA certification after receiving either sanction must first petition the BOE for approval to reinstate—and meet all the BOE's conditions and/or requirements—before applying for certification reinstatement.
Read the Speech-Language Pathology Pathway to Reinstatement for more information. In addition, carefully read the policies and procedures below. Please don't apply until you can (1) meet all the reinstatement policies and procedures listed below and (2) submit all the required items.

- $400 for the CCC-SLP and ASHA membership
- $371 for the CCC-SLP without ASHA membership
- Provide evidence that you completed professional development activities within the Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology. The number of professional development hours (PDHs) required is based on the amount of time you have not held ASHA certification.
- 1 year or less without certification = 10 PDHs completed no more than 1 year prior to submitting your application for reinstatement.
- 1–2 years without certification = 20 PDHs completed no more than 3 years prior to submitting your application for reinstatement.
- 2 years or more without certification = 30 PDHs completed no more than 3 years prior to submitting your application for reinstatement.
- On your application, list the professional development activities that you completed and include the following information:

- number of hours earned
- Be sure to keep copies of all professional development documentation in case they are requested by ASHA Certification staff for your application.
- Submit official notification from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) that you received a passing score on the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology exam if your certification has been expired for more than 12 months (see table below).
If your CCC-SLP has been expired for 1 year or less, you are not required to provide confirmation of a passing Praxis exam score. |
If your CCC-SLP has been expired for more than 1 year, you must provide confirmation of a passing Praxis exam score that was achieved no more than 5 years before applying for reinstatement. |
Refund policy: Applicants who voluntarily withdraw their application prior to communicated application deadlines will be eligible for a refund of the application fee minus a $50 processing fee. Applicants who do not meet reinstatement requirements by communicated deadlines will have their applications closed, and any fees paid will not be refunded.
Reinstatement Timeline
Please allow 4–6 weeks for review of your completed online application and all required documentation. Certification will be reinstated only after ASHA has verified that all reinstatement requirements have been met.
Maintenance of Certification
If your certification is reinstated, you must maintain that certification by (1) abiding by the Code of Ethics, (2) paying annual ASHA dues and/or certification fees, and (3) completing 30 PDHs during each 3-year maintenance interval.
