Nebraska Teacher Requirements for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

The information below is collected from state regulatory agencies responsible for regulating school based speech-language pathologists and/or audiologists. Special Services Standard Audiologist Certificate, valid for 5 years 

Individuals with this endorsement may serve as an audiologist or consultant for programs involving those from birth through age 21. 


  • Completion of an audiologist degree
  • Hold a valid license in audiology with the Nebraska Department of Health & Humans and
  • Meet the Human Relations Training requirement

Continuing Education Requirement

  • Submit the Verification of Experience Form indicating work as an audiologist for one (1) year within the immediate past five (5) years half time (50%) or more in a legally operated school system while holding or qualifying to hold a regular teaching certificate or
  • Hold a current Nebraska license as a Registered Audiologist from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. 

Speech-Language Pathologist

Speech-Language Pathologist Endorsement

Individuals with this teaching endorsement may provide speech-language pathology services to and consultative services for those from birth through age 21 or completion of their Individualized Education Program.

  • A minimum of a master's degree in speech-language pathology, which includes at least 36 graduate semester hours in speech-language pathology and related courses 
  • Applicants must also complete a minimum of 400 clock hours of clinical experiences and an internship, supervised by the standard institution in a school or clinic setting

Endorsement Program Requirements: Nebraska teacher education institutions offering this endorsement program must have on file, within the institution, a plan which identifies the courses and the course completion requirements which the institution utilizes to grant credit toward completion of this endorsement.

Submit a passing score for the applicable content test (PRAXIS 5331) for the first-time placement of this endorsement on a Nebraska certificate or permit. (Praxis 0330/5330 Speech Language Pathology also accepted.)

Continuing Education Requirement

Individuals without one year of service in the past five years must complete six semester credit hours. All others may renew their certificate upon verification of experience.
