Connecticut Assistants (Support Personnel) Requirements

The following information includes audiology and speech-language pathology assistants and support personnel requirements in educational and other practice settings. Speech-Language Pathology

School Setting Requirements

Support personnel are not licensed in Connecticut schools. Guidelines are provided for speech-language pathology aides and assistants in school settings.

Statutory and Regulatory Requirements

  1. The licensed speech and language pathologist may not supervise more than three support personnel.
  2. In-person communication between the licensed speech and language pathologist and support personnel must be available at all times.
  3. The licensed speech and language pathologist must provide the support personnel with regularly scheduled direct observation, guidance, direction, and conferencing for not less than 30% of client contact time for the support personnel's first 90 workdays and not less than 20% of client contact time thereafter.


An audiology assistant must work under the direct, on-site supervision of a licensed audiologist. An audiologist supervising an audiology assistant must assume responsibility for all services provided by the assistant.
