Mississippi Teacher Requirements for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

The information below is collected from state regulatory agencies responsible for regulating school based speech-language pathologists and/or audiologists. Audiologist–Five Year Educator License - Audiologist (202)

License Class AA 

Either:

  • Hold a five year educator license and
  • Master's degree in audiology

or

  • Hold a master's degree in another area and complete an approved program for audiology and
  • Praxis II-Specialty area for audiology

or

  • Complete an approved master's degree in audiology
  • Twenty-one (21) ACT equivalent or achieve the nationally recommended passing score on the Praxis Core exam and
  • Praxis II-Specialty Area for Audiology

License Class AAA 

  • Meet requirements for AA license and
  • Specialist degree in audiology

License Class AAAA 

  • Meet requirements for AA license and
  • Doctoral degree in audiology

Continuing Education Requirement

Three semester hours in content of job/skill related area; or five continuing education units (CEUs) in content or job/skill related area are required every five years.

Emergency Certification

A one year nonrenewable educator license may be issued at the request of the superintendent of the local school district to licensed teachers (holding at least a bachelor's degree) hired to teach out-of-field, or for an individual who has begun but not completed the process for licensure.

Speech Language Pathology–Five Year Educator License - Speech/Language Clinician (215)

License Class AA 

  • Complete an ASHA approved master's degree program in speech pathology
  • Twenty-one (21) ACT equivalent or achieve the nationally recommended passing score on the Praxis Core exam and
  • Praxis II: Specialty Area for Speech Pathology

or

  • Complete and ASHA approved master's degree program in speech pathology and
  • Original ASHA membership card

License Class AAA 

  • Meet the requirements for standard AA license and
  • Specialist degree in speech pathology

License Class AAAA

  • Meet the requirements for standard AA license and
  • Doctoral degree in speech pathology
