Why should ASHA members approve a slate that includes you as President-Elect for the Board of Directors?
Margot L. Beckerman, AuD, CCC-A, is Associate Director of Audiology at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor (University of Michigan Health). She has been a practicing audiologist for more than 35 years—with a clinical emphasis on vestibular and balance disorders as well as interdisciplinary clinical and administrative leadership.
At Michigan Medicine, she leads multisite, multidisciplinary teams and directs clinical and administrative operations. Prior to joining Michigan Medicine, Dr. Beckerman was Audiology Director for a community-based United Way–funded speech and hearing clinic in Jackson, Michigan, and managed the successful integration of that center into a larger community health system. Although her career has included various leadership roles, she has remained active in clinical practice throughout.
Dr. Beckerman is an ASHA Fellow. Her strong commitment to the discipline is evident in her active involvement in professional leadership for nearly 30 years. She served multiple terms on the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) Executive Board, chaired Michigan’s statewide audiology conference, and was recognized for her leadership and service with MSHA’s Honors of the Association.
In service to ASHA, Dr. Beckerman was Michigan’s representative on the Audiology Advisory Council prior to being elected Chair; in the Chair role, she was a member of ASHA’s Board of Directors. She has served as an ASHA Board of Ethics member, Vice-Chair for Audiology on the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and Chair of the Financial Planning Board. Dr. Beckerman has volunteered on several ASHA Convention topic committees. She is an ASHA Leadership Development Program alumni and has served as a mentor for the Leadership Mentoring Program. She is a Past President of the American Balance Society.
Dr. Beckerman earned a BA in Speech and Hearing Science and in Psychology from the University of Michigan, an MA in Audiology from Northwestern University, and an AuD from A.T. Still University—Arizona School of Health Sciences.
