New Mexico Insurance Requirements for
Autism Spectrum Disorder

Note: Certain insurance plans are exempt from state
mandates. Please contact your plan administrator to see if your plan includes
state mandated autism spectrum disorder benefits.
Specific Insurance Mandate
The state of New Mexico has a specific autism mandate.
The mandate requires specified health insurance policy, health care plan or
certificate of health insurance shall provide coverage for:
- well-baby and well-child screening for diagnosing the
presence of autism spectrum disorder
- treatment of autism spectrum disorder through speech
therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and applied behavioral
