The 2018 Research Symposium is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, at the ASHA Convention in Boston, Massachusetts.
To apply, it is the protégé's responsibility to access the online application system during the application period, complete the online form, upload all of the following materials as PDF documents, and submit the entire application by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, Sunday, July 1, 2018.
Can I apply for the award if I have already received ASHA Convention funding from another source?
An individual who has received other ASHA travel awards is eligible to apply for the RMPTA.
Who can I apply with as my mentor? Do they have to be someone at my university or may they be based elsewhere?
Protégés may pick a mentor of their choice; however, mentors are required to be experienced investigators in an academic, clinical, or research environment. Research Symposium speakers cannot serve as RMPTA mentors.
What will the award application review process entail?
The Research Mentoring-Pair Travel Awards are made based on a competitive application process. Designated reviewers consider each applicant's research interest and its relatedness to the Symposium topic, as well as the mentor's qualifications.
Applicants will be notified of the status of their application in August.
Am I still eligible for the award if I cannot attend the Symposium?
No. Mentors and protégés must attend the Symposium. Everyone is expected to attend the entire Symposium and networking lunch. If you or your mentor are presenting a session that gets scheduled on Saturday, an exception will be made to accommodate you or your mentor being absent for that part of the day. You must contact research@asha.org to inform the program organizers of this conflict.
