  • Candidates testing in 2026 will take the Praxis examinations through ETS.
  • Beginning January 11, 2027, the examinations will be administered by PSI as the National Audiology Examination™ and the National Speech-Language Pathology Examination™.
  • The examination questions, format, content areas, structure, and passing standards will not change.

Update on ASHA Exams

On January 11, 2027, the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology PRAXIS® examinations and the examinations for the Audiology Assistant and Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certification programs will transition to PSI, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The exams will be known as the following:

  • National Audiology Examination
  • National Speech-Language Pathology Examination
  • National Audiology Assistant Examination
  • National Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Examination

The PRAXIS® exams will continue to be available through ETS until December 26, 2026. The assistant certification examinations will continue to be available through Prometric through January 15, 2027.

Because ETS already has an established relationship with PSI, this will be a smooth transition for everyone involved, including exam candidates, academic programs, and state licensure boards.

Transition to PSI

Examinations and Exam Content Will Remain the Same

  • The passing points on the examinations will remain the same.
  • The ASHA-certified volunteers who create the examinations will continue under PSI’s leadership.
  • ETS Data Manager will continue to support academic programs and licensure boards in verifying the results of their students/graduates and applicants for licensure.
  • The PRAXIS® practice tests will continue to be available.
  • The examinations will still be offered both in person, at over 400 secure test centers, and online through PSI’s live remote proctoring system.

What to Expect Next

  • The application to register for the National Audiology Examination and National Speech-Language Pathology Examination through PSI will open on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
  • Assistant certification program applicants who want to test in 2027 will be able to schedule a 2027 test date beginning in late December 2026.
  • Candidates with an unused test voucher will receive instructions and timing details for the transfer to PSI as the transition date approaches.

If you have any questions, please reach out to exams@asha.org. We appreciate your partnership and support throughout this transition.
