Structuring and Registering Sessions for Certification Areas One and Two, Supervision, and SLPA Content

Registering

ASHA Continuing Education (ASHA CE) recommends that when providers offer a multi-session event that includes courses addressing Certification Content Area 1, Certification Content Area 2, or Supervision, they submit each course separately. Doing this ensures that participants who use the ASHA CE Registry receive accurately recorded learning experiences on their CE transcript. This accurate record indicates completion of continuing education toward Certification Maintenance requirements.

Note: ASHA CE recommends the above action only if the reporting organization can accurately track and report on the learner’s attendance and satisfactory completion for each course. Otherwise, providers should not consider this an option.

Providers can word their promotion materials as follows:

This course was registered with ASHA CE under the subject of “_______” and will appear on learners’ CE transcripts as such.

Provider registered courses with the following subject codes are reported as such for those who use the ASHA CE Registry:

Once a user completes the required hours for each content area, the CE Registry system notifies the ASHA Certification department of their compliance.

Some Providers may choose not to submit separate course registrations for sessions that focus on (a) Content Areas One and Two and/or (b) Supervision. If this is the case, then the Provider should supply the learner with a session report. The learner can then use this session report to self-attest if they need to supply documentation.

Options for Learners

It is possible that one course may cover multiple areas—and, if that course does address both Content Areas One and Two and/or Supervision, then the Provider must choose how to code the course using the subject codes. The Provider should include as much detail as possible in literature about the course; such inclusion will help learners decide whether the course covers more than one topic area.

Learners who take courses to meet ASHA Certification Maintenance requirements may log into their ASHA account to self-attest if course completion does not appear on their CE transcript as expected.

Advising Learners Who Elect Not to Use the ASHA CE Registry

Some learners will choose not to use the ASHA CE Registry. In those cases, the Provider should encourage the learner to retain any session reports or literature about the course. Doing so will help that learner if they must self-attest their completion of professional development hours to a third party.
