5-Year Review Process Changes

ASHA CE has made changes to the 5-year review process. The full list of changes is explained below. Please reach out to cereapproval@asha.org for questions.

Background

Every five years, ASHA CE Providers undergo a reapproval review. Due to the implementation of the new Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies (as of July 1, 2025), we are making changes to the 5-year review process. This page explains the changes and what Approved Providers should expect.

If your organization is up for reapproval and does not wish to continue as an ASHA Approved CE Provider, please contact cereapproval@asha.org as soon as possible, and we will not perform a review of your organization. In this case, your Providership will be withdrawn as of December 31 of the reapproval year.

Highlights

  • We will assign each organization to one of 3 review groups (January, March/April, May/June). Providers will receive notification approximately 3 months before the review due date.
  • Providers will be asked to submit information in our reapproval portal. A description of what will be requested is included below.
  • We will review the submissions and compliance over the past 5 years to make reapproval decisions.
  • Review fees remain the same for 2025.

The information we request should be items that Providers already have in place and should not require significant effort. We will notify Providers in advance so there is time to prepare anything that may need updating.

Examples of what we will request to review

We will provide resources to help you understand our expectations for these items. We are also willing to help you develop processes and policies, if you do not have them already in place.

Why are we making this change?

Until now, the 5-year review has consisted solely of a review of past compliance. With the implementation of the current compliance model, these issues are being addressed in real-time, through consultation and actions plans. To ensure that reapproval decisions are meaningful to both ASHA CE and Providers, we are focusing on items that are not regularly reviewed. We will only ask for information required in the standards and policies and will keep our requests to a minimum. For those Providers who already have these processes and policies in place, the reapproval process should not be extremely time-consuming.

If you have any questions, please reach out to cereapproval@asha.org. We are happy to support you in any way we can throughout this process.
