State Association Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering at your state association is an excellent way to gain experience and build your volunteering portfolio. Volunteer opportunities can range from micro-volunteering to joining a committee of interest to running for leadership positions on the state association’s board of directors.

Volunteer position: Constituent Liaison
Type: Hybrid

Description: PSHA has a new advocacy initiative to strengthen our work with legislators, and we would like to invite you to join. We are looking for current PSHA members to volunteer to serve as liaisons to their local political representatives. This new initiative will add to our advocacy toolkit: constituent-driven, relationship-based advocacy with legislators. Legislators have been very open to meeting with us and hearing our concerns, but we know that they also really want to hear directly from their own constituents. When there is a legislative or policy issue, you agree to write a letter, call, or, in certain circumstances, meet with your local elected representative. PSHA provides support that may include scripts, background information on the issue, or written materials to share.
Main role: Advocacy
Term: 6–12 months, annual reappointment possible
Travel: Yes, to meet with local elected representative
Required experience: PSHA member in good standing, willingness to contact their local legislator, interest in advocacy

Volunteer position #1: State Advocate for Medicare Policy (StAMP)
Type: Virtual

Description: SHAV is looking for a StAMP to join our advocacy team. A StAMP provides leadership, guidance, and support on topics related to coverage, reimbursement, and the delivery of services under Medicare. We have many changes coming with CMS and are looking for someone passionate about helping our state members to better navigate these changes.
Main role: Advocacy, Medicare reimbursement
Term: 2 years; reappointment is an option

Required experience: Experience working at facilities who actively bill Medicare is preferred. Current SHAV membership.

Volunteer position #2: State Advocate for Reimbursement (STAR)
Type: Virtual

Description: The STAR provides leadership, guidance, and support on topics related to coverage, reimbursement, and the delivery of services under state Medicaid programs and private payers. They work with ASHA and our state members to ensure understanding, advocacy, and regulatory compliance

Volunteer position: Committee Members

Description: As a member of WSLHA’s Financial Committee/Fundraising Task Force, or of the Communications Committee, you will serve in a role with leadership development potential. You will collaborate with others in monthly hour-long meetings and complete between-meeting tasks related to fundraising and/or outreach activities to promote the Mission and Vision of WSLHA. The results of your work will enhance member benefits.

Volunteer position #2: Convention Planning Chair

Description: You will help the president-elect to plan an in-person convention for SLPs and audiologists in Wyoming. You may also help with organization; act as a liaison to the board and the vendors; and arrange speakers with support of the board.

Description: You will represent the president in case of emergency, succeed the President for the remainder of the term in office if President is unable to complete term, be a voting member of the Executive Board, member of the convention planning team
