Liaisons with the Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology and Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Audiology

Charge

The SPEB will (a) provide oversight in the operations of ASHA Professional Development’s (APD) program plan, including reviewing and recommending policies and procedures and monitoring progress toward achieving member service and revenue goals; (b) provide input and guidance in the development and delivery of APD’s offerings, including the identification of relevant issues that impact the type, quality, and relevance of programming; and (c) nominate future Convention Co-Chair candidates for consideration by the Committee on Committees.

Commitments/Obligations

SPEB conducts one (1) face-to-face meeting on the morning of Committee Day at the ASHA Convention, followed by the volunteer luncheon and afternoon governance team building activities; and one (1) virtual meeting: a two-day meeting in the Winter/Spring. SPEB also engages throughout the year via 3-4 videoconference calls (e.g., Zoom). Additionally, SPEB has its own collaboration site in the ASHA Community to share information, edit and post documents, and carry out committee assignments. Incoming members of SPEB are expected to attend Committee Day at the ASHA Convention in the year prior to the start of their full term.  

Desired Service Qualifications/Experiences

SPEB is committed to diversity and desires to balance the board with members who have had some ASHA committee/board experience with members who are new to ASHA leadership positions. SPEB also desires to have members who work in various settings and who bring experience in adult professional learning and continuing education.
