Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities required for all Board of Directors (BOD) members, the Board Member at Large in Speech-Language Pathology is charged with the following tasks:

  • Help represent the needs and interests of ASHA speech-language pathology members
  • Chair the BOD Speech-Language Pathology subcommittee
  • Other duties as assigned by the ASHA President

Essential Experience/Expertise/Skills

In addition to the Experience/Expertise/Skills essential for all BOD members, the Board Member at Large in Speech-Language Pathology requires the following:

  • At least 5 consecutive years of ASHA membership (recommended)
  • Strong interest in leadership and advocacy

Time Commitment (excluding travel time)

  • Weekly (routine tasks, emails, and voting): 2–3 hours
  • Monthly (CBC work and BOD virtual conferencing): 4–5 hours
  • Quarterly (meeting prep and attendance): 2–3 days
