ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting some requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree
  • 350 hours of clinical experience

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • 400 hours of supervised clinical practicum

Both

  • Nine-month full-time (or part-time equivalent) postgraduate professional experience
  • National exam

Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

ASLP-IC: Oklahoma is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: A nonresident may practice up to 7 days in any calendar year if the person's education/experience is substantially equivalent to state requirements.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Option 1:
    • Approved teacher education program
    • Recommendation from the university certification officer
    • Oklahoma subject area test
    • Praxis performance assessment for teachers
    • Criminal background check
  • Option 2:
    • Full out-of-state certificate and meets standards set by the State Board of Education

Audiologist

  • State license

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • State license
  • Oklahoma Teaching certificate

Audiology Assistant

Health Care Setting

  • High school diploma
  • A supervising audiologist must be licensed for two years and may not supervise any more than two assistants

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

ASHA Pathway: The ASHA C-SLPA is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure .

  • Associate’s degree
  • 100 supervised clock hours
  • A supervising speech-language pathologist must be licensed for two years and may not supervise any more than two assistants.

Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

School Setting: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

  • State license

  • A state licensed supervisor
