The information below is collected from state licensure boards or regulatory agencies responsible for regulating the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology in the state of Nevada. ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting some requirements for licensure for audiologists and is required for licensure for speech-language pathologists. 

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree

Audiologists who dispense hearing aids must request an endorsement of the license to engage in the practice of fitting and dispensing hearing aids and must pass an examination required for the licensure of hearing aid specialists.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • ASHA CCC

Both

  • National exam

Continuing Education: 10 hours every year

ASLP-IC: Nevada is not a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice. Telepractice services must be documented in the patient record.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: No provisions.

Audiologist: Endorsement to provide audiological services

  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
  • One of the following:
    • ASHA CCC
    • Master’s degree
    • Master’s degree plus at least 300 hours of supervised clinical experience in audiology or speech-language pathology and at least 60 semester credits in courses related to the normal development, function and use of speech and language or hearing

A person is not required to have an endorsement to provide audiological services to pupils who are at least 3 years of age but less than 22 years of age.

Speech-Language Pathologist: Endorsement for speech and language impairments

  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
  • Praxis Content Area Test 
  • Three semester hours in a course of study regarding parental involvement and family engagement; and
  • One of the following:
    • State license or ASHA CCC
    • License or certificate issued by another state, with an endorsement to teach pupils who have speech and language impairments
    • Bachelor's or master's degree in the area of speech and language impairments and eight semester hours of student teaching, a clinical practicum, equivalent field experience or one year of verifiable teaching experience with pupils who have speech and language impairments; or 
    • Bachelor's or master's degree; and
      • Eight semester credits of student teaching, a clinical practicum, equivalent field experience or one year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; and
      • 28 semester credits of course work to include each of the following areas:
        • Audiology; 
        • Assessment and treatment of disorders; 
        • Normal development of speech and language; 
        • Science of speech and voice; 
        • Phonetics; 
        • Introduction to special education; and 
        • Parental involvement in programs for pupils with disabilities.

Continuing Education: Six continuing education credits or 15 hours each year of professional development

Audiologist

  • Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed endorsement

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • State license

Audiology Assistant

Health Care Setting: Audiology Apprentice

  • Educational standards set by licensing board
  • On-site training and work experience
