The information below is collected from state licensure boards or regulatory agencies responsible for regulating the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology in the state of Nebraska. ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure for both professions. 

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree

Audiologists who maintain a practice in which hearing instruments are regularly dispensed may dispense under an audiology license.  

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree

Both

  • 36-week full-time professional experience
  • National exam
  • Jurisprudence exam is recommended but not required

Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

ASLP-IC: Nebraska is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: Nonresidents may provide audiology or speech-language pathology services for no more than 30 days if the provider meets the qualifications for Nebraska licensure and such person is working under a Nebraska licensee and registers with the Board prior to the initiation of services.

Audiologist: Special Services Standard Audiologist Certificate

Speech-Language Pathologist: Speech-Language Pathologist Endorsement

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum of 400 clock hours of clinical experience
  • Praxis exam

Continuing Education: Audiologists must submit the Verification of Experience Form indicating work as an audiologist for one year within the immediate past five years half time or more in a school system while holding or qualifying to hold a regular teaching certificate, or they must hold a current state license. SLPs without one year of service in the past five years must complete six semester credit hours. All others may renew their certificate upon verification of experience.

A school-based certificate is required to work in early intervention in Nebraska.

Health Care Setting

  • Register with the Department of Health and Human Services
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A licensed supervisor may not supervise more than two assistants at one time.

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

Health Care Setting

  • Register with the Department of Health and Human Services
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A licensed supervisor may not supervise more than two assistants at one time.

School Setting: Speech Language Technician

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Permit provides an endorsement
