ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting some requirements for licensure for both professions. 

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree

Both

  • Supervised professional employment
  • National exam

Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

ASLP-IC: Mississippi is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: No provisions.

Audiologist: Five-year Educator License - Audiologist (202)

  • Option 1:
    • Five-year educator license
    • Master’s degree
  • Option 2:
    • Master’s degree in another area and completed program for audiology
    • Praxis exam
  • Option 3:
    • Master’s degree
    • Praxis exam
    • 21 ACT equivalent or passing score on Praxis core exam

Speech-Language Pathologist: Five-Year Educator License - Speech/Language Clinician (215)

  • Option 1:
    • Master’s degree
    • Praxis exam
    • 21 ACT equivalent or passing score on Praxis core exam
  • Option 2:
    • Master’s degree
    • ASHA CCC

Continuing Education: Three semester hours in content of job/skill-related area or five continuing education units in content or job/skill-related area are required every five years

A state license is required to work in early intervention in Mississippi.

Audiology Assistant

Health Care Setting: Audiology Aide

  • Register with Department of Health
  • High school diploma
  • A licensed audiologist may not supervise more than three aides.

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

Health Care Setting: Speech-Language Pathology Aide

  • Register with Department of Health
  • High school diploma
  • A licensed audiologist may not supervise more than three aides.

School Setting: Speech Associate

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 21 ACT equivalent or passing score on Praxis core exam
