ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting some requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervised clinical practicum
  • National exam
  • Supervised postgraduate professional experience under a temporary license

Audiologists must obtain a hearing aid dispenser license to dispense hearing aids. 

Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

ASLP-IC: Kansas is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Kansas allows for telehealth, but there are no licensing board rules specific to the practice of audiology and speech-language pathology. Providers must generally adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: No provisions.

A state license is required to work in Kansas schools.

Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

  • State license
  • Understanding of the following:
    • Primary service provider approach
    • Division for Early Childhood recommended practices
    • Agreed upon mission and key principles for providing early intervention services in natural environments

Audiology Assistant

Health Care Setting

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete a training program conducted by a state-licensed audiologist

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

  • All settings recognize the C-SLPA

Health Care Setting

  • State license 
  • Bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders, or a bachelor's degree in another field and 24 hours of core coursework in communication sciences and disorders, or completion of a speech-language pathology assistant program from an institution offering an associate's degree, a technical training program, or a certificate program
  • 100 supervised clock hours 

A state-licensed supervising SLP must have two years of full-time professional experience following completion of a postgraduate professional experience.

School Setting 

    • State license 
    • Bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders, or a bachelor's degree in another field and 24 hours of core coursework in communication sciences and disorders, or completion of a speech-language pathology assistant program from an institution offering an associate's degree, a technical training program, or a certificate program
    • 100 supervised clock hours 

    State-licensed supervising SLP must have two years of full-time professional experience following completion of a post-graduate professional experience.
