ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting some requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree or master’s degree plus ASHA CCC

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervised clinical fellowship under provisional certificate
  • National exam

    Continuing Education: Audiologists: 10 hours every two years; SLPs: participation in the Continuing Professional Competency Program

    ASLP-IC: Colorado is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

    Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

    Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: An out-of-state provider may practice up to 30 days a year, on behalf of a Colorado licensee who is temporarily absent. The unlicensed practice may not occur more than once annually and may not exceed a total of 30 calendar days’ duration. Contact the state board for more information (4 CCR 748-1.17).

    Audiologist: Initial Special Services License for School Audiologist Endorsement

    Continuing Education: 90 clock hours every five years

    A state license is required to work in Colorado early intervention.

    • Bachelor's degree
    • School SLPA program or the equivalent
    • 100 hours school-based practicum
    • A supervisor should not supervise more than three SLPAs at one time.

      Note: Under the Colorado Department of Early Childhood, minimum standards for speech-language pathology assistants include possessing the ASHA SLP Assistant’s Certification.
