ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as meeting requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist

  • Master’s degree or doctoral degree

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license but must comply with regulations regarding medical clearance and consumer protection measures.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervised postgraduate professional experience under a provisional license

Both

  • Supervised clinical practicum
  • National exam

Continuing Education: 10 hours every year

ASLP-IC: Arkansas is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: Nonresidents licensed in another state with equivalent standards or CCC holders may offer services for no more than 30 days per fiscal year if done in cooperation with a licensed practitioner. Contact the state board for more information.

Audiologist

  • State license

Speech-Language Pathologist: Ancillary License—Speech Language Pathology (K-12)

  • Master’s degree or ASHA CCC
  • National exam
  • Criminal background check
  • Completion of the following through the Arkansas IDEAS Portal:
    • Two hours of parental involvement
    • Two hours of child maltreatment training
    • Two hours of teen suicide awareness and prevention
    • Dyslexia awareness

Continuing Education: 36 clock hours every year

    Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

    • State license
    • Completion of Core Competencies training through First Connections is required annually.

    Continuing Education: 20 hours of ongoing professional development annually with at least 10 of these hours directly related to early intervention

      Audiology Assistant

      Health Care Setting

      • Bachelor’s degree

      School Setting

      • Not regulated

      Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

      Health Care Setting

      ASHA Pathway: The ASHA C-SLPA is accepted as meeting requirements for licensure.

      • Bachelor's degree and 25 hours of observation; or
      • SLPA program (two-year minimum) and 100 hours of fieldwork experience supervised by a licensed SLP or CCC-SLP
      • A licensed supervisor may direct no more than two full-time or three part-time SLPAs at one time.

      School Setting

      • Speech-Language Pathology Aide: high school diploma and 40 clock hours of in-service training during the first year
      • Speech-Language Pathology Assistant: bachelor’s degree or SLPA training program

      Continuing Education: 10 hours per year
