ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under a “dispensing audiologist” license.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervised postgraduate professional experience under a temporary license

    • Supervised clinical practicum
    • National exam

    Continuing Education: 20 hours every two years

    ASLP-IC: Arizona is not a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

    Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license or register as an out-of-state telehealth provider and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

    Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: Arizona allows a health care provider who is not licensed in Arizona to provide telehealth services to a client located in the state if the provider registers with the Department and pays a fee.     Audiologist

    • State license

    Speech-Language Pathologist: Standard Speech-Language Pathologist, Pre-Kindergarten-12 Certificate, Professional Non-Teaching

    • Master's degree
    • 250 supervised clinical clock hours
    • National exam, or ASHA CCC, or the speech and language impaired special education portion of the Arizona Education Proficiency Assessment

    Continuing Education: 60 hours every six years or proof of maintenance of state license

    Audiologist

    • Documentation of pediatric audiology training or experience as measured by one of the following:
      • Certificate of completion of the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) Newborn Hearing Screening Curriculum
      • Registration with the Early Hearing Detection & Intervention-Pediatric Audiology Links to Services (EHDI-PALS)
    • Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) Standards of Practice course

    Speech-Language Pathologist

    Audiology Assistant

    Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

    ASHA Pathway: The ASHA C-SLPA is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure

    • Approved training program
    • 100 hours of clinical interaction supervised by a licensed SLP
    • A licensed supervisor may direct no more than two full-time or three part-time SLPAs at one time.

    School Setting

    • State license

    Continuing Education: 10 hours every year
