ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist

  • Doctoral degree

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license.

Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervised postgraduate professional experience under a provisional license

Both

  • Supervised clinical practicum
  • National exam
  • US citizenship or national status

Continuing Education: 12 hours every year

ASLP-IC: Alabama is a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: Audiologists and SLPs who hold their CCC or are licensed in another state may practice for up to 30 days in cooperation with an Alabama licensee. Contact the state board for more information.

    Continuing Education: One of the following every five years:

    • Three years of full-time educational experience and 50 clock hours of professional development or three semester hours of allowable college credit
    • Six semester hours of allowable college credit
    • Three semester hours of allowable college credit and 50 clock hours of professional development
    • Initial issuance of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification

    ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is required for SLPs.

    • Special instruction webinar/mentorship
    • Journey through Early Intervention in Alabama-Level I training and Message ReVITALIZED: Journey II. This training can only be taken after working in the position for at least three months but prior to six months of employment.

    Continuing Education: Individuals with no certification or licensure requirement for continuing education are required to participate in 16 contact hours, every two years, of continuing education activities related to early intervention/pediatrics, working with children and families, or child development.
