Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities required for all Board of Directors (BOD) members, the Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology is charged with the following tasks:

  • Help ensure that established policies and procedures for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of all Association-sponsored continuing education activities and products are maintained
  • Help ensure that established policies regarding continuing education activities provided by continuing education providers are maintained
  • Help ensure that established standards for certification in speech-language pathology are maintained

ASHA Standing Committees, Boards, and Councils

The Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology serves as the BOD liaison to the following ASHA standing Committees, Boards, and Councils (CBCs):

Essential Experience/Expertise/Skills

In addition to the Experience/Expertise/Skills essential for all BOD members, the Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology requires the following tasks:

  • Knowledge of ASHA’s Code of Ethics
  • Experience on previous ASHA committees such as the Board of Ethics (BOE), the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, the Continuing Education Board, the Scientific and Professional Education Board, or other equivalent volunteer experience in state, national and/or international organizations
  • Willingness to read, synthesize, and provide broad input to complex reports, particularly standards and ethics–related documents, in a timely manner
  • Understanding of standards and ethics programs at ASHA

Time Commitment (excluding travel)

  • Weekly (routine tasks, emails, and voting): 4–6 hours
  • Monthly (CBC work and BOD virtual conferencing): 8–10 hours
  • Quarterly (meeting prep and attendance): 3–5 days
