Erica Ellis, PhD, CCC-SLP

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) National Advisor

Erica Ellis, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an Associate Professor and serves as Associate Chair in the Department of Communication Disorders at California State University, Los Angeles. She earned her BA in Psychology and Communication Disorders from San Diego State University (SDSU). Dr. Ellis completed her doctoral training at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and SDSU in the Joint Doctoral program where she earned a PhD in Language and Communication Disorders and engaged in graduate research at the Center for Research in Language.

Dr. Ellis specializes in child language disorders, focusing much of her research on word learning, Late Talkers, and caregiver coaching interventions. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence as a Speech-Language Pathologist with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as state licensure with California. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, she regularly presents her research at local, national, and international scholarly conferences and has first-authored and co-authored research publications.

Dr. Ellis has contributed service to the profession through volunteer roles including Research Grants and Scholarship Committee Chair as a Board member with the California Speech-Language Hearing Association Foundation (CSHAF), a reviewer of peer-reviewed professional publications, a member of the Scholarship and Awards Committee for the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) and a reviewer of competitive research grant proposals through various funding agencies. Dr. Ellis has mentored numerous undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students within the profession. She is currently Co-PI of Project CIELO (OSEP H325M230023) at Cal State LA, a federally funded personnel training program which supports graduate students entering the field of SLP and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE).

She serves on the ASHA Board of Directors as the National Advisor to the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).
