Outstanding Service Award

The Outstanding Service Award is designed to recognize living ASHA members or National Office personnel who have offered outstanding and exemplary service on behalf of or for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or on behalf of individuals in their communities with unserved speech, language or hearing needs.

Nominees, who may include individuals or groups of individuals, must have demonstrated a significant contribution in one or more of the following areas:

  • administration
  • community service
  • program development
  • service to members

If the nomination is for a group, each individual in the group must be listed by name with their ASHA number.

A maximum of two awards may be given each year.

The Committee on Honors awards nominees solely on the information provided in the nomination document prepared by the sponsor. When information and/or documentation are incomplete, the Committee may be unable to award deserving individuals.

Required Components

  • A sponsor and two co-sponsors, all of whom are ASHA members in good standing.
  • One of the three persons submitting the nomination is a Fellow of ASHA.
  • If the nominee is a National Office staff member, a statement must be provided by a member of the National Office Facilitating Team:
    • Vicki Deal-Williams, Chief Executive Officer
    • Megan-Brette Hamilton, Chief Staff Officer for Multicultural Affairs
    • Monica Sampson, Chief Staff Officer for Speech-Language Pathology
    • Selena Ramkeesoon, Chief Staff Officer for Communications
    • Margaret Rogers, Chief Staff Officer for Research
    • Donna Smiley, Chief Staff Officer for Audiology
    • Kyle Vickers, Chief Staff Officer for Operations
  • At least one of the four areas of significant contribution are identified.
  • The sponsor and the two co-sponsors have each submitted a nominating statement focusing on the identified area(s) of significant contribution.
  • The sponsor and co-sponsors have provided the following factual information in support of the nominee:
    • Sponsor's letter of support includes statements focusing on the area(s) of significant contribution
    • Co-sponsors' letters of support affirming the area(s) of significant contributions
    • Professional vita. If a group of individuals are being nominated, a brief professional vita should be included for each member of the group.
    • Nomination materials, including all supporting documentation may not exceed ten pages that are at least single-spaced with a 12-point font size. If a group application, the page limit may not exceed twelve pages.
    • Any inserted or embedded items in the supporting documentation must adhere to line spacing and font size requirements. This applies to graphs, charts, certificates, photos, etc.
    • All supporting documentation must not include active hyperlinks. The Committee on Honors will not click on, review, or consider any hyperlink provided in the nomination packet.
    • All supporting documentation must be combined into one PDF document.
  • General Requirements

Failure to adhere to all required components and instructions will result in rejection of the nomination, including any materials exceeding the specified number of pages.
