Senator Casey Weinstein Receives 2024 ASHA Public Service Award

Submit Your Nomination for the 2025 Public Service Award

June 2, 2025

The ASHA Public Service Award recognizes elected lawmakers or politically appointed policymakers who make a significant contribution to the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology. To receive the award, nominees must support the professions in a way that aligns with ASHA’s advocacy priorities for audiologists and speech-language pathologists.

Ohio Senator Casey Weinstein received the 2024 ASHA Public Service Award for his sponsorship and support of Madeline’s Law in Ohio. This groundbreaking legislation ensures insurance coverage of hearing aids for children, which will help more children thrive in school, connect with their peers, and access the tools they need to reach their full potential.

As a champion for individuals with communication disorders, Senator Weinstein has advocated for legislative initiatives that ensure access to essential services, support for professionals, and enhanced public awareness.

Senator Weinstein received the award at the 2025 Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association (OSLHA) Convention. Dr. Carrie Spangler, Senator Weinstein’s nominator, and OSLHA’s leadership conducted the awards ceremony.

Previous Public Service Award winners include Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who sponsored legislation to expand Medicare coverage of audiology services, and U.S. Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA) and former Congressman David McKinley (R-WV), who co-chaired the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus.
