Four years ago, Towson University created the Institute for Well-Being to facilitate interprofessional education (IPE) for students across the health professions. Students engage in numerous community outreach experiences involving IPE. This session focuses on the challenges and solutions for making IPE work across multiple departments and majors. This session presents an efficient, collaborative, and motivating program for interprofessional education (IPE). Developed over 3 years at the Touro College School of Health Sciences in conjunction with the Master’s Program in Speech-Language Pathology, the program utilizes simulated IPE case management, faculty training, and curricular integration. Interprofessional collaboration among otolaryngologists, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists is pivotal to successful treatment of disorders of hearing, voice, and swallowing. This course highlights two teams: audiologist/physician and speech-language pathologist/physician. Cooperative models of care, including patient flow, Medicare compliance/reimbursement, treatment outcomes, and challenges are presented.
