Description of Opportunity:

ASHA is preparing to update the Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology.

The ASHA Board of Directors has charged a Task Force with updating the Scope of Practice. If you would like to be considered for the Task Force, please follow these steps by February 17, 2026:

  1. Review the “Timeline and Commitments” and “Experience Required” sections below.
  2. Answer the questions on the Volunteer Application Form.
  3. Upload a résumé (maximum 2 pages) to the Volunteer Application Form that demonstrates your experience successfully collaborating with a team.

Timeline and Commitments:

  • The work will start in spring 2026.
  • We anticipate that the work will be completed by December 31, 2027.
  • Attendance is required at regular virtual meetings. The Task Force will establish the frequency of meetings (e.g., bi-weekly, monthly).
  • Attendance is required at two in-person meetings (one per year) at the ASHA National Office in Rockville, Maryland. ASHA will cover travel expenses in accordance with its travel policy.
  • We expect all Task Force members to actively contribute to the work and discussions —not only during virtual and in-person meetings but also during those time periods between meetings.

Experience Required:

The applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be a speech-language pathologist (SLP) with at least 5 years' clinical experience post Clinical Fellowship.
  • Must be an ASHA Certified Member.
