Power up Pragmatic Treatment Outcomes with Cutting Edge Evidence-Based Techniques

Video Learning Squad

April 21, 2020
7:00 - 9:00 p.m. ET

Sponsored by the Video Learning Squad of the Lavi Institute

Join us and learn how to feel confident about your therapy sessions while having fun! The use of peer models in a video format proves to be effective, engaging, and works as a magnet to draw our students’ attention to learn from peers their own age. In this live chat, Dr. Adriana Lavi, author of the Clinical Assessment of Pragmatics test (CAPs) and founder of the Lavi Institute, will focus on the Social Skills Squad pragmatic treatment that targets the understanding and use of nonverbal social language skills that are fundamental to our students pragmatic language success. This social communication approach is comprehensive and utilizes visual-auditory bombardment, video modeling, and peer mentors to teach nonverbal language/inflections. Our ability to successfully communicate with others hinges on our pragmatic language skills. When children and adolescents have difficulty reading facial expressions and emotions or have difficulty understanding others’ intent, it will impact their ability to create and maintain meaningful friendships and relationships. By teaching our students what it means to have a social mind, big heart, how to appropriately interpret faces and intonation, and use facial expressions and prosody effectively, we can provide our students with the skills necessary to be able to read social context and be effective social communicators.
