Idaho Teacher Requirements for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

The information below is collected from state regulatory agencies responsible for regulating school based speech-language pathologists and/or audiologists. Audiologist

Pupil Personnel Services Certificate

Persons who serve as school audiologists are required to hold the Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with the respective endorsement(s) for which they qualify.

Audiologist Endorsement (valid for five years and renewable)

The audiology endorsement may be issued by the Certification office to any person who holds a master's degree from an accredited college or university in an audiology program approved by the State Board of Education.
Applicants must receive an institutional recommendation from an accredited college or university.

Continuing Education Requirement

Six semester credits are required every five years.

Emergency Certification

The State Board of Education authorizes the State Department of Education to issue certificates and endorsements to those individuals meeting the specific requirements for each area to hire an individual who is not appropriately certified only after all attempts to hire an appropriately certificated person have failed.

This authorization is valid only during the school year for which the application is submitted.

This authorization is non-renewable. It may not be used again for the same individual or for the same classroom assignment. Due to the temporary nature of the Provisional Authorization, it is highly recommended that districts apply for the Alternative Authorization—Teacher to New Certification/Endorsement whenever possible, as this allows a certificated individual to work toward acquiring the correct certificate/endorsement.

Alternate Route for Pupil Personnel Service Certificate for School Audiologists

Master's degree and a current Idaho license from the Bureau of Occupational Licenses in the certification area of school audiology
Employing district must provide information attesting to the ability of the candidate to fill the position and create a plan to show how the candidate will complete a program to become fully certified in the area of requested certification.

A non-renewable three-year Interim certificate will be issued with an annual review. The candidate's review will cover how well the candidate is completing the plan to become fully certified by meeting all endorsement requirements. Upon completion of the plan the candidate may apply for the standard endorsement in the area requested.

Speech-Language Pathologist

Pupil Personnel Services Certificate

Persons who serve as speech-language pathologists are required to hold the Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with the respective endorsement(s) for which they qualify.

Speech-Language Pathologist Endorsement (valid for five years and renewable)

The speech-language pathologist endorsement may be issued by the Certification office to any person who holds a master's degree from an accredited college or university in a speech-language pathology program approved by the State Board of Education.
Applicants must receive an institutional recommendation from an accredited college or university.

Speech-Language Pathologist Interim Endorsement (valid for three years and nonrenewable)

This certificate will be granted for those who do not meet the educational requirements but who hold a bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology and are pursuing a master's degree in order to obtain the Pupil Personnel Services Certificate endorsed in speech-language pathology.

Continuing Education Requirement
