Charles E. Bishop, AuD, PhD, CCC-A

Charles E. Bishop, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, is an associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. In addition to maintaining a busy clinic schedule, Dr. Bishop is involved with audiology graduate extern and ENT resident education and participates in NIH-funded clinical research focused mainly on the relationship of cardiometabolic disease and hearing in the Jackson Heart Study cohort. Clinically, Dr. Bishop works with adults and children assessment and management of hearing, tinnitus, and auditory processing. He has past experience with cochlear implants and assessment of vestibular disorders.

Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2004, Dr. Bishop worked in a number of different settings, including the Hearing and Balance Centers of Hurst, Texas and as an “audiological scientist” in Limerick, Ireland. He has also worked as a consultant with Hearing Planet, Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Bishop obtained an MA in audiology from the University of North Texas, and subsequently an AuD from Salus University, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bishop earned his PhD in Clinical Health Sciences from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School for Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences. In addition to conducting his NIH-funded research, Dr. Bishop studies hearing aid outcomes and neurochemical correlates of auditory processing in humans.

Dr. Bishop has maintained his ASHA membership and Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology continually for 16 years. He has been active in the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) since 2004 and regularly presents at state and national audiology and otolaryngology-based meetings.
