Sharon Moss, PhD, CCC-SLP

Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology

Sharon Moss, PhD, has had a rewarding, multifaceted career: high school biology educator; clinical researcher and service-provider in academic, health care, and biomedical research settings; research administrator; and association executive. She received her PhD and master's degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Florida and a bachelor's degree in biology from South Carolina State University.

Dr. Moss currently serves as Chief Research Officer at the American Society of Association Executives, often referred to as “the association of associations.” She directs the association's research, publication, and knowledge dissemination efforts—including leading the development and implementation of a robust research agenda. She oversees programs of research that advance applied and scholarly knowledge; inform effective practices; and identify emerging issues and trends that span the fabric of the discipline, including ethics, credentialing, continuing education, standards, and content creation and delivery.

As ASHA staff, Dr. Moss served as the Association's research integrity officer and led research on ethics in education and publication practices. Her volunteer service to ASHA includes roles as Chair, Committee on Honors; Chair, ASHA Ethics Appeal Panel; Chair, Board of Ethics (BOE) Education Subcommittee that oversaw the development and adoption of the 2016 revised Code of Ethics; member, Clinical Certification Board (now called the Council for Clinical Certification); and member, Special Interest Groups 2 and 14. While in the Office of Research Oversight, Department of Veterans Affairs, she was responsible for directing investigations of research misconduct and designing and implementing policies that governed responsible ethical conduct for researchers and academicians in more than 170 medical facilities.

Dr. Moss served on the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) Advisory Council and on the boards of directors for the following organizations: Academy of Neurological Communication Disorders and Sciences (ANCDS), National Black Association of Speech-Language-Hearing (NBASLH), American Heart Association (AHA) Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, and AHA-Nation's Capital Affiliate. She is an ASHA Fellow, is Board Certified in Neurogenic Communication Disorders (BC-NCD), and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
