Description of Opportunity:
The increasing complexity of pediatric caseloads, coupled with workforce shortages, inconsistencies in clinical preparation, and the evolving health care landscape, places significant demands on speech-language pathologists, challenging their ability to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. These pressures can affect clinical decision-making, interprofessional collaboration, and the overall value of speech-language pathology services. ASHA is working to develop and disseminate new resources to support pediatric health care-based speech-language pathology members to support their needs.
This member advisory group will help ASHA staff address a variety of clinical and practice challenges that impact pediatric health care SLPs including topics related to pediatric-specific clinical diagnoses, professional trends and service delivery models, interprofessional practice, family-centered care, and health equity. The charge of the member advisory group is to provide practical input to staff on the state of clinical practice within pediatric medical speech-language pathology practice areas; help develop meaningful member resources and engagement strategies; assist in the roll-out of member engagement tools.
Experience Required:
Members should have a mix of experience and working knowledge, practice settings, and geographic regions. Member work settings are to include acute care hospitals, acute rehabilitation hospitals, pediatric long-term care, hospital-based outpatient facilities, and home health. Priority will be given to members with experience in special populations (pediatric TBI, pediatric oncology, cardiac, and other medically-complex diagnoses), health care leadership, and varied service delivery models (such as episodic care, group therapy, caregiver training).
