EDFIND Search Tips

Essentials of an EDFIND Search

Doing a search in EDFIND is easy, and the following helpful hints will make it even easier.

Currently, in EDFIND, there are two search screens:

  • A Master's Program search
  • A Doctoral Program search

There are also two types of searches within each screen:

  • One type is a "Search by Academic Institution Name" (use this if the name of the program that holds interest is known)
  • The other type is a "Search by Program Characteristics" (use this to compare various program)

Search by Academic Institution Name

To "Search by Academic Institution Name", simply type the name of the institution or one of the key words in a program's name into the "Academic Institution Name" search box (i.e., typing the word Adelphi, will result in a listing for Adelphi University), then hit the enter key or click on the search button.

Once the search results are shown, click on the hyper-linked name of the institution to view the program profile and find out more information.

Institution Location Area(s) of Study CAA Accreditation Degree Type(s) [Application Deadline]
Adelphi University NY Speech-Language Pathology Master of Science (MS) - Accredited In Review Master of Science (MS)

Search by Program Characteristics

To "Search by Program Characteristics", you must first select the required field of "Area of study", then choose any other characteristics you wish and hit the enter key or click on the search button. Your results will be displayed as an alphabetical list of programs according to the search terms you selected.

Click on the hyperlinked name of a university to learn more about that program's characteristics.

Search Tips

Here are some basic tips to help maximize the effectiveness of searches conducted in EDFIND:

Searching by Institution Name Apostrophes and Hyphenated Names
Capitalization Word stemming (truncation)
Abbreviations Selecting Characteristics

Searching by Institution Name

Tip:To narrow your search for a specific program, you can type a key word from the program's name to get a more targeted result.

For example, if you're looking for California State University – Chico, type Chico and you will be more likely to get the exact result than if you were to type California State University.

Do not use hyphens, apostrophes, or other punctuation when performing a search.

Capitalization

Tip: EDFIND searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for university of new mexico, University of New Mexico, and uNIverSIty OF nEW meXICo will all return the same results.

Abbreviations

Tip: Do not use abbreviations. For example, instead of St., type out the word Saint.

Apostrophes and Hyphenated Names

Tip: Do not use apostrophes or hyphens when searching for an institution by name. To find Texas Woman's University, type Texas Woman using no apostrophe.

Word stemming (truncation)

Tip: EDFIND uses stemming technology. This means that you will receive in your search results all programs containing the word you entered. For example, entering the name Mary will yield Loyola College in Maryland, Marywood University, and University of Maryland College Park.

Selecting Characteristics

Tip: As you search for a program in EDFIND, keep in mind that only the programs matching the entire search criteria will display in the results. If the combinations of search characteristics you selected produced too few results, broaden the search characteristics until a larger sample of programs is obtained.

Please note that the accredited clinical entry degree for audiology is now a doctoral degree, so to search for accredited audiology programs you'll need to select the Doctoral Program search link.
