2009 Audiology/Hearing Science Research Travel Award (ARTA)

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) will sponsor a travel award to attend the ASHA Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 19–21, 2009. The purpose of the Audiology/Hearing Science Research Travel Award (ARTA) is to provide financial support to students interested in research in audiology and/or hearing science to attend the ASHA Annual Convention.

ARTA Objectives

The ARTA is a mechanism to provide students an opportunity to 1) learn more about current research in audiology and hearing science; 2) network with seasoned professionals currently conducting research in the area of audiology and hearing science; and 3) learn more about academic-research careers in audiology and hearing science.

ARTA Eligibility

An individual is eligible to apply if he or she is currently (at the time of application submission) enrolled in one of the following:

  • a clinical doctoral degree program (e.g., AuD) accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)
  • a research doctoral degree program (e.g., PhD) in audiology or hearing science
  • a postdoctoral fellowship program in audiology or hearing science.

ARTA Stipend and Responsibilities

Up to twenty individuals will each receive a stipend of $500 and complimentary registration for the ASHA Annual Convention.

Each award recipient will be expected to attend:

  • Thursday morning breakfast with current and former ARTA recipients
  • The Foundation breakfast Friday morning
  • New Investigator Roundtable Lunchtime Session on Thursday
  • Pathways to Research Funding Roundtable Lunchtime Session on Saturday
  • Convention Program Chair Networking Reception following the Opening Session (invitations will be sent out to awardees)
  • PhD Information Sharing Session (date, time, and location are to be determined; invitations will be sent out)
  • Convention sessions of interest
  • Opening Session and Awards Ceremony (reserved seating provided)

Award recipients will also receive an invitation to the Researcher–Academic Town Meeting on Wednesday evening (if travel plans allow).

All applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on June 10, 2009. The award notification will take place in August 2009.
