2011 Audiology/Hearing Science Research Travel Award (ARTA)

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) sponsors the Audiology/Hearing Science Research Travel Award (ARTA) for students interested in research in audiology and/or hearing science to attend the ASHA Annual Convention in San Diego, California, on November 17–19, 2011.

ARTA Objectives

The objectives of ARTA are to provide audiology/hearing science students an opportunity to (a) learn more about current research, (b) network with fellow students and seasoned professionals currently conducting research, and (c) learn more about academic-research careers while experiencing the ASHA Convention. View current and former ARTA recipients.

ARTA Eligibility

An individual is eligible to apply if he or she has not previously won this award and is currently (at the time of application submission) enrolled in one of the following:

  • a clinical doctoral degree program (e.g., AuD) accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)
  • a research doctoral degree program (e.g., PhD) in audiology or hearing science
  • a postdoctoral fellowship program in audiology or hearing science.

ARTA Stipend and Responsibilities

Up to twenty individuals will each receive a stipend of $500 and complimentary registration for the ASHA annual Convention. Responsibilities include attendance at key, pre-selected events and sessions, while experiencing the excitement generated when learning and sharing with others in attendance at Convention. These may include:

  • Researcher-Academic Town Meeting on Wednesday evening
  • The ARTA Thursday morning breakfast
  • The ASHFoundation breakfast on Friday morning
  • Opening Session and Awards Ceremony

Other Convention opportunities include attending the:

  • New Investigator Roundtables at noon on Thursday
  • Pathways to Research Funding Roundtables at noon on Friday
  • NIDCD-Sponsored Research Symposium all day on Saturday (The 2011 topic is Neurobiological Bases of Auditory and Speech Perception.)
  • PhD Information Sharing Session on Saturday morning (time and location are to be determined; invitations will be sent out). This session is an informal discussion/networking session for students interested in or currently enrolled in a PhD program.
  • Additional Convention sessions of interest
