For school-based speech-language pathologists, adapting to rapidly changing laws can be a challenge.
This audio self-study describes changes to IDEA '04 and the impact this legislation has on speech-language pathology services in school settings. Topics include changes in personnel qualifications, IEPs, response to intervention,
early intervening services, evaluations and eligibility determinations, funding, and cochlear implants.
IDEA 2004 allows for the flexibility necessary to conduct meaningful and educationally relevant speech-language evaluations in the school setting. This audio self-study shows you how to apply the tenets of IDEA 2004 to get the flexibility you need.
Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs have lowered the age of hearing loss identification. For the audiologist just beginning to work with newborns and infants, understanding the influences upon and components of the EHDI system is important in providing timely and comprehensive services for young children and their families. This program reviews audiologic test procedures to identify and quantify hearing loss, discusses how to initiate early intervention, including amplification, and when to refer to other professionals. Developing productive partnerships with parents and other professionals is emphasized as a key to comprehensive care for babies with hearing loss.
To meet the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing’s (2000) goals of identifying hearing loss by three months of age and fitting appropriate amplification within a month of diagnosis, audiologists must have the appropriate knowledge and expertise. This audio self-study presents a case study demonstrating the use of real ear measures critical for ensuring appropriate hearing aid fitting. Participants are introduced to frequency compression/transposition (FC) devices that allow fitting for a broad variety of hearing loss configurations. Included is an overview of the selection of hearing aid technologies, and features for the pediatric population.
