With the latest installment to the ASHA journals online
archive, members have free, unlimited online access to more than
60 years of archives, including 675 issues in 169 volumes of:
American Journal of Audiology
(1991-2008)
American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology
(1991-2008)
Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders
(1948-1990)
Journal of Speech and Hearing Research
(1958-1996)
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research
(1997-2008)
Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools
(1970-2008)
The final phase of the archive, containing the complete
collection of the
Journal of Speech Disorders
(1936-1947), is expected to be available later this year.
The online archive includes articles by some of the pioneer
researchers in communication sciences and disorders, as well as a
glimpse into the history of ASHA as seen by its leadership and
its members.
As an example, in 1955 past president Margaret Hall Powers
published "
The Dichotomy
in Our Professions" commenting on the "dichotomy of interest and
activity" among members in clinical settings and those in
research and university settings. This discussion is still alive
54 years later.
Knowledge of the past is key to an understanding of the
present and a plan for the future. So take a few minutes to
browse through the ASHA scholarly journals archive at
ASHA Journals
and get in touch with the evolution of the discipline.
You might discover that the online library is such a
convenience that you no longer need print journals. To opt out of
receiving print copies, just send an e-mail to
subscribe@asha.org
with "Cancel Print" in the subject line. Please also
include your ASHA account number in the e-mail.
