Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Causes and Number

What causes TBI?

Any blow to the head can cause TBI. Common causes include auto accidents and falls. As noted before, some injuries involve penetration of the brain, while others cause damage without actually penetrating the skull.

 

How common is TBI?

Information about how many individuals sustain TBI is contained in ASHA's report "Communication Facts: Special Populations: Traumatic Brain Injury."
