The Outpatient Medicare Physician Fee Schedule

Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Services

Audiology and speech-language pathology services under Medicare Part B (outpatient) have reimbursement rates established by the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) regardless of provider setting, except for outpatient audiology services provided in hospitals. This site provides information on the MPFS for audiologists and speech-language pathologists, including in-depth analysis of relevant policy changes and revisions to the fee schedule, Medicare Part B payment rules, geographic adjustment calculations, and new developments. The fee schedule is updated annually by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Analysis of the 2015 Medicare Fee Schedule

ASHA's analysis of the 2015 Medicare Fee Schedule provides an overview of relevant policy changes and calculates national average payment amounts for audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Note that the Medicare Fee Schedule rates published here are only valid January 1–March 31, 2015. Absent Congressional action, rates will drop by approximately 21% beginning April 1, 2015. However, it is expected that Congress will act to prevent this cut, as it has done in past years. Please monitor this website or sign up for ASHA Headlines for updates regarding rates.
