Submit Your Nomination for the ASHA Public Service Award!

The ASHA Public Service Award is designed to recognize an elected lawmaker or politically appointed policymaker who has made a significant contribution to the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology. This award publicly highlights the work of honorees on behalf of the professions as well as the clients, patients, and students you serve. It is the highest award that ASHA exclusively confers on a public official. Nominations for this year’s Public Service Award are open until May 31, 2024.

Nominees should have made a significant contribution to the professions that aligned with ASHA’s annual advocacy priorities for audiologists and speech-language pathologists. (Those priorities are outlined in the Public Policy Agenda.)

U.S. Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA) and former Congressman David McKinley (R-WV), who co-chaired the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus, received the ASHA Public Service Award in 2021. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who sponsored legislation to expand Medicare coverage of audiology services, received the award last year.

Who Can Submit Nominations?

ASHA members in good standing may submit a maximum of two (2) nominations per year. Each nomination must be submitted separately.

How Can You Submit Nominations?

Complete the ASHA Public Service Award nomination form, which includes a statement describing the candidate’s significant contribution to the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology.

When Can You Submit Nominations?

All nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on May 31, 2024.

What’s Next?

The Government Affairs and Public Policy Board will consider nominations that have been submitted by midnight EST on May 31, 2024. The Board will then recommend the selected nominee to ASHA’s Board of Directors for approval.
