EBP: Who's Doing What at ASHA

National Office Staff

Virtually every staff unit at ASHA's National Office is involved with some facet of evidence-based practice. The lead staff group charged with coordinating the Association's activities related to EBP is The National Center for Evidence-Based Practice in Communication Disorders (N-CEP). N-CEP's Director, Rob Mullen, can be contacted at rmullen@asha.org or 301-296-8745.

Advisory Committee on Evidence-based Practice

In 2005, ASHA's Executive Board established the Advisory Committee on Evidence-Based Practice as a standing committee of the Association. The Committee's charge is to:

a) establish a set of terminology and definitions related to evidence-based practice for consistent use throughout ASHA;

b) identify and prioritize clinical questions;

c) convene panels of independent knowledgeable reviewers to conduct evidence review on clinical questions;

d) establish processes for the conduct and dissemination of evidence reviews; and

e) advise National Office staff on members' needs in the area of evidence-based practice.

The monitoring Vice-President is Constance Qualls (Vice President for Research and Technology). N-CEP Director Rob Mullen serves as ex-officio to the Group, and ASHA's Chief Staff Officer for Science and Research, Margaret Rogers, serves as consultant.
