Learn Tips and Strategies for a Better Work/Life Balance

Join us! Take a break from your busy Convention schedule for some relaxation and a little mind break. Refreshments and light snacks will be served as 20–30 minute mini-workshops are led by a life coach and a career coach. These workshops will provide you with tips on how to balance your personal life and your career. It's the perfect opportunity to bring balance and mindfulness into your daily living and help you be more intentional about your career. On Thursday, Certified Life Coach Suzanne Levy will focus on "Total Well-being in the Workplace and Beyond." On Friday and Saturday, Certified Career Coach Brenda Cody will review résumés and lead discussions about personal career branding and how to design your career path. These workshops are interactive—more dialogues than lectures, so you'll meet and mingle with fellow members in an intimate, friendly environment while exploring these topics. Plus, after each workshop you'll have the opportunity to enter a drawing for an iPad! You must attend at least one workshop to be eligible.

All workshops take place in the Colorado Convention Center, Hall AB, ASHA Circle of Support Lounge, Booth 578.

Class Descriptions 

A Little Relaxation Goes a Long Way (20 min.)
You don't need to make big changes to bring more balance into your life. Building short, enjoyable activities into the day can recharge your batteries, improve clarity and focus, and help build more positive interactions in the workplace and beyond. This workshop will include practical tips and applications to use in the workday to promote calm and conservation of mind/body energy. The session will end with a short guided meditation.

What Are Signature Strengths, and How Do They Promote Well-being? (20 min.)
Come away with a specific practice that can help you maximize your well-being and potential in the workplace and become more effective and focused. Ultimately, you'll be more productive and successful.

Time-out for Mindfulness (20 min.)
Many of us live on autopilot, going through our day hurriedly but without a feeling of being present in our lives. This workshop will include a discussion about what mindfulness is and how to incorporate it into daily living. The workshop will end with a restful and enjoyable mindfulness breathing practice that will allow participants to reclaim a sense of calm and clarity.

Unplug! Or, How to Stop Hating Your Inbox (20 min.)
Technology is now a firmly established part of everyday existence. It can, however, take over your life and dramatically increase stress if you let it. This workshop will focus on smart strategies and techniques to implement immediately to identify energy drains, reduce stress, increase clarity, and promote healthy technology habits.

The Power of Aromatherapy (20 min.)
Essential oils have been used by wellness practitioners of various types for centuries. These extracts of plant leaves, flowers, stems, roots, or bark can be powerful tools to use to help promote relaxation/sleep, improve digestion, and heal skin conditions, just to name a few uses. Examples are lavender (calming), peppermint (invigorating), and lemon (calms stomach upsets and aids digestion). This session will include an introduction to the benefits of aromatherapy and some of the more widely used essential oils that promote well-being, stress relief, and calm. A selection of essential oils will be available for participants to explore and experiment with on-site.

Résumé Review (10 min.)
Revamp your résumé so it gets read by the people who matter most. This is a one-on-one opportunity for you to get specific feedback and advice on how to improve your résumé.

Managing Change (20–30 min.)
Even though change is constant, it is never easy. But there are some sure-fire techniques you can use to improve how you respond to and deal with change. In this session, you'll discover what your personal change style is, and you'll leave with a positive strategy model for managing change.

Managing Your Career (20–30 min.)
Managing your career is a life-long process, not just a once-a-year brief conversation during your performance review. In this session, you'll learn why taking back control is essential, and you'll walk away with actionable strategies you can start using now to be more intentional about your career.

Career Branding (20–30 min.)
Whether your career path is to continue to work for someone else or be your own boss, being able to differentiate yourself from your competition is crucial. This session is your chance to finally start to understand your personal career brand, how to craft it and how to use it.
