  1. How do I complete an ASHA eLearning self-study?

To complete a self-study, you read the course materials provided in the classroom.  Journal self-study articles are presented in Adobe PDF format and can be read on screen or printed out. 4. How quickly will I know if I'll be awarded CEUs for eLearning self-studies?

If you are completing an ASHA eLearning self study online, you will know right away whether you have achieved a passing score. Your CEUs will be posted to the ASHA Continuing Education Registry within one week of completion.

If you are completing an ASHA eLearning live web workshop, you will receive periodic email reports on your progress. If you have completed all the coursework by the last day of the course, your CEUs will be reported to the Continuing Education Registry within 2-3 weeks of the last day of the course.

  5. What are the system requirements for using the ASHA eLearning classroom?

You need to have Netscape or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher, and be registered with the ASHA Web site.

    Site registration is required.

Web site visitors who wish to create a username and password for ASHA.org are required to supply a valid e-mail address when they register. This is done for several reasons:

    • Allows you to receive password reminders via e-mail if you happen to forget your password;
    • Allows you to receive subscriptions to notifications for various portions of the ASHA web site;
    • Enables ASHA to contact you for administrative purposes relative to your web account and/or changes to ASHA’s web-based services.

ASHA will not share your e-mail address with other companies. Communications considered to be member benefits (such as electronic newsletters) may be sent to you on an opt-out basis. All other communications will be strictly opt-in and will require action on your part in order to subscribe to them.

    PDF Documents

The ASHA eLearning classroom makes extensive use of journal articles in PDF format. This format allows documents to be downloaded and printed with their original formatting intact. These files require the Adobe Acrobat® reader (Version 5.0 or greater) to be viewed and printed. This reader is free and may be downloaded from the Adobe web site (new window).

    Multimedia

If your course has audio or video, it should appear in the course window. You must have Windows Media Player installed to view the video within the course (to install the player, visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx ).

  6.  Can you give me some tips on navigating the classroom?

Each time you open a program in windows, a button is created for that program on the Windows Navigation Bar at the bottom of your screen (the button for a course in the eLearning classroom will show the first word of the course title). By clicking these buttons, you can move back and forth between multiple browser windows and programs without losing any information.

You can use this to your advantage to move back and forth between, for example, a CEU test and the course text. All tests are "open book."

  7. The font on my screen appears strange, with wide variation in text size. What's wrong?
    • Use the three "Text Size" buttons at the top of the right bar to try different sizes.
    • If it still looks wrong, go to the "View" menu in Internet Explorer and be sure that Text Size is set to medium for best results on our site.

  8. Why does one of the links embedded in the course material not work/bring up a "page not found" error?

Please contact ASHA Professional Develoment by phone (1-800-498-2071 ext. 4198) or by e-mail to report any links that do not work.

  9. When I click the exam link, the login screen appears but it won't accept my username and password. Why?

Go to the Technical Support page (left bar menu at any eLearning screen) and submit the APD tech support form.

  10. When I click the exam link, there are no tests available to me.  Why?

This error is usually caused by attempting to access a test more than the number of times allowed. For ASHA eLearning self-studies, you are allowed three attempts to successfully complete the test. If you have this problem and have not used all three attempts, please contact ASHA Professional Develoment by phone (1-800-498-2071 ext. 4198) or by e-mail.

  11. Can I complete the online test in more than one sitting?

No, the testing software does not allow you to save a test in progress. When you log into an test, it will be counted against your three try limit. A copy of the test questions is available for review for all ASHA eLearning self-studies.

  12. Why won't the course video clips play on my computer?

Answer 1: Some courses do not have video or video is sent on VHS tape. If you did not receive a CD for the course in the mail, your course probably does not have online video clips.

Answer 2: If your course has video, it should appear in the course window. You must have Windows Media Player installed to view the video within the course (to install the player, visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx ).

  13. The pop-up windows in the course will not open on my computer?

If you have installed a plugin to block pop-up advertising on your browser, the pop-ups in this workshop will not work. You may choose to remove that plugin or set it to accept pop-ups from www.asha.org while completing the workshop.

In case you do not wish to remove or reset your pop-up blocker, we have included, as far as possible, all information that appears in pop-up windows in the resources page for this course. Animations and flash demonstrations cannot be provided in this way. To view these, you will have to remove the pop-up block.

  14. Are there any guidelines for using the Discussion Forums?

ASHA's Web Workshops include threaded discussion forums. You will be familiar with this type of discussion if you have visited the discussion groups available in the member areas of the ASHA web site.

How to keep the forum running smoothly:

    • Please do not post technical support questions to the forum. If you have questions that are internet or software related, please go to the "Tech support" page (left bar menu at any elearning screen) and submit the tech support request form.

    When posting messages, Do...

    • Stay on topic.
    • Post only messages that are relevant to the topics of the forum (use the "hallway" thread for non-course-related chat and networking).
    • Remember, all messages are public and will be viewed by others.
    • Familiarize yourself with the discussion group before posting messages. Check to make sure your question has not already been addressed.

    When posting messages, Don't...

    • Cross-post. Posting a message to more than one topic thread is unnecessary and creates extra traffic for you and others to sift through.
    • Quote previous messages. Only quote when absolutely necessary.

Instructors reserve the right to delete or move (to a more appropriate thread) messages that do not follow these guidelines.
