Three-Year Certification Maintenance Intervals

Every certificate holder is assigned a 3-year Certification Maintenance Interval. All professional development hours must be completed within this time period. Maintaining Certification is an ongoing process and once the interval ends, a new interval is assigned.

Initially Certified or Reinstated After 2005

For certification awarded after January 1, 2005, the 3-year interval begins the first January following the date certification was awarded. For example:

• certification awarded anytime in 2009 would be assigned a Certification Maintenance Interval of January 1, 2010–December 31, 2012
• certification awarded anytime in 2010 would be assigned a Certification Maintenance Interval of January 1, 2011–December 31, 2013
• certification awarded anytime in 2011 would be assigned a Certification Maintenance Interval of January 1, 2012–December 31, 2014
• certification awarded anytime in 2012 would be assigned a Certification Maintenance Interval of January 1, 2013–December 31, 2015

Please note: Newly-certified individuals may no longer request their first certification maintenance interval start the same year that their certification was granted.
