Tips for a Successful TV Interview

  • Relax, don't fidget or move around.
  • Find out as much as you can about the interview and the interviewer ahead of time.
  • Be attentive. Talk to the reporter, not to the camera.
  • Dress in comfortable clothing. Solid colors and modest jewelry are best.
  • Determine key messages and facts before the interview.
  • Be brief. Avoid rambling or lengthy statements. Stick to your key messages and avoid jargon.
  • If you do not know the answer to a question, say so. Offer to find out the answer and get back to the reporter.
  • Be energetic and animated without being comical or extreme.
  • Be yourself. Try not to sound like a news anchor!
