Department of Health and
Human Services
(HHS) continues to update its Web site with the latest funding
opportunities under health care. The Web site provides direct
links to available grants and other information related to the
disbursement of ARRA funds for health care improvements.
States to Control Federal Dollars
Most of the
funding allocated for health care go directly to states,
territories, and tribes, which will then distribute the through grants, loans, and other
mechanisms.
Health Information Technology
ARRA requires the government to develop national standards for
the use and exchange of electronic health data. The law provides
funding to the Medicare and Medicaid programs to provide
financial incentives to doctors, hospitals, and other providers
to use electronic records.
Comparative Effectiveness Research
The law authorizes the development of the Federal Coordinating
Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research. This new council
will help coordinate research and guide investments in
comparative effectiveness research funded by the Recovery Act.
The council will also assist other agencies of the federal
government, including HHS and the Departments of Veterans Affairs
and Defense, as well as others, to coordinate comparative
effectiveness and related health services research.
